Linderhof Castle, located in the heart of the Bavarian Alps, is a jewel of refinement and beauty.

This small castle, the only one completed during King Ludwig II’s lifetime, is a masterpiece of design and engineering, a place where the king could escape from the world and live out his dreams.

Linderhof was built starting in 1869, on the site of an old hunting chalet that belonged to Ludwig’s father, King Maximilian II. Ludwig transformed the humble chalet into a sumptuous palace, taking inspiration from the French Rococo style he loved so much. Despite its small size compared to other Ludwig castles, Linderhof does not lack splendor and opulence.

The interior of the castle is a triumph of luxury and artistic details. The audience hall, with its golden decorations, imposing desk and ceiling stuccos representing emblems of war, peace, music and painting, is an example of Ludwig’s passion for art and beauty.

But Linderhof is not just the castle: the surrounding park, with its perfect geometries, fountains, sumptuous statues and oriental-style pavilions, is a fundamental element of the visit experience. Among the most notable attractions are the Venus Grotto, inspired by the Blue Grotto of Capri, where Ludwig loved to spend hours dreaming and reflecting, and the Moroccan House, an exotic pavilion purchased at the Paris Universal Exhibition.
